Assalamualaikum and good day!

Welcome to the official website of the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA).

As we all know, machines play an important role in our life. We use machines almost everyday such as for transportation, healthcare, exercising as well as home appliances, to name a few. As the demand for the use of machine rises, more mechanical related engineers are needed. Therefore, the responsibility to provide mechanical engineering education has been given to FTKMA in producing more practical-oriented mechanical engineers for the country.

The faculty was founded back in 2003 and was formerly known as the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It has been restructured in 2018 with the name being changed to Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (FKMP) and subsequently rebranded to FTKMA in 2019.

We are located nearby the Pekan Automotive Park which has made our existence more significant. Although we are relatively new, we are currently placed within #351-400 in the QS World University Ranking in 2020 in the field of Mechanical Engineering, in addition to our graduate employability being among the highest in the country.

For the time being, we offer two undergraduate programmes namely Bachelor of Automotive Engineering dual-degree programme with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HSKA), Germany and Bachelor of Automotive Technology. In addition, FTKMA also offers Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, whose graduates are one of the feeders for the degree programmes.

We are currently designing several new bachelor of engineering technology programmes, which is aimed to be offered in September 2021. All of our programs are designed to not only focus on theoretical knowledge but also include practical effort through work-based learning, laboratories as well as project works. Our programs are closely attached with the industry by involving experts in the field serving as guest lecturer as well as giving seminars to our students. Moreover, the curriculums are designed with 4 months to 1-year industrial training at the end of study. As the Chinese proverb “I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand”, we strive in providing learning by doing approach to give more benefits to the students. On top of that, FTKMA also offers postgraduate studies through master by taught course and master by research mode as well as Ph.D in Mechanical and Automotive Engineering.

Academic staff in FTKMA involves in 7 major research focus groups that reflects the faculty’s focus and mission. Applied research that provide solutions to technological problems are carried out in the field of manufacturing, materials engineering, advanced fluids, energy sustainability, automotive, structural integrity and vibration as well as human engineering. We are actively engaged with many collaborators from industries, hospitals, universities, research centres, governments, local agencies and etc. As researcher and educator, each staff actively plays their role in sharing their expertise and knowledge or new findings through the writing of journals and books, presentation at conferences as well as other means of knowledge sharing methods.

Furthermore, FTKMA owns a journal known as Journal of Mechanical and Engineering Sciences (JMES) since 2011. The journal had won the Ministry of Education’s Current Research in Malaysia (CREAM) award in 2016 and 2018 and currently indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) by Clarivate Analytics, CNKI, among others.

Further details and information about our staff, programs, research as well as activities in FTKMA can be found in our website.
